The AFCPE staff has been so busy over the last few months, it is hard to believe that Spring has sprung already! It is such a hopeful season with new life emerging all around, and we share that excitement and forward thinking for this organization and our field. Here are just a few efforts we are working on:

Program Updates

NEW Money Management Essentials program

AFCPE has developed a new professional development course designed for both professionals and individuals who are interested in gaining a solid foundation in money management education. The course takes you through the essential steps to building a firm financial foundation—from establishing goals, to developing a spending plan, to overcoming credit and debt, to purchasing a home. It is a great first step for those who are not quite ready to earn the AFC® or FFC® credentials.

COMING SOON! Financial Inclusion Essentials

This new online course will highlight:

  • An overview of disability, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and effective communication strategies.
  • Assessing the financial situation of persons with disabilities and their families.
  • Understanding unique challenges individuals with disabilities face when accessing financial services.
  • Alternative savings opportunities for individuals with disabilities that will allow them to save for a major purchase.
  • ABLE accounts (how to set-up an ABLE account and identifying which ABLE account is right for the individual).
  • Estate planning for persons with disabilities.

Events

We are excited to build upon our Ohio Investor Education Events in partnership with Investor Protection Trust and plan to bring the community engagement focus to Georgia later this year. If you are in the Georgia area, stay tuned for more ways to get involved!

2018 Symposium Call for Presenters

Mark your calendars for November 14–16 in Norfolk, Virginia. Each year, we bring together professionals from across all areas of the personal finance field to build a more inclusive and integrated continuum of care for all people. We look forward to another fantastic program, building upon the momentum of 2017!

For those interested in presenting a practitioners’ forum, poster, research paper, or student paper at the 2018 Symposium, the deadline to submit a proposal is June 1, 2018.

We Meet You Where You Are

AFCPE® professionals are intentional, passionate, knowledgeable, and committed to making a difference in the lives of individuals and families—by meeting them where they are and guiding them on a new financial path.

As an organization we are committed to supporting you and the clients that you serve! Which is why, during Financial Literacy Month (held in April of each year), we introduced a new promotional postcard for AFCPE® certified professionals to customize, print and share. We also celebrated this important month, by showcasing the diversity of the AFCPE community through daily professional (and fun!) spotlights on our blog.
